Lake Sapporo

Lake Sapporo (Sapporo City Minami-ku) is an artificial lake created by Jozankei Dam, which was completed in 1989. This dam, as well as Hoheikyo Dam which was completed in 1972, supplies clean water to Sapporo City. Among centers recognized as cities throughout Japan, only Sapporo City has two large scale dams which are more than 100 meters tall. There are four observation platforms along the road between Jozankei and Otaru. People can enjoy very beautiful colored leaves there in autumn. Lake Sapporo is in the boundaries of Shikotsu-Toya National Park. Jozankei Dam Downstream Park is not far from the lake.
