Marimo手湯 / Marimo-no Teyu: a small onsen (hot springs) for the hands

Marimo-no Teyu (Kushiro City) is located in the town of Lake Akan Hot Springs, and this facility is a small onsen (hot springs) for the hands. Natural and pure hot spring water flows out and visitors can warm their hands while taking a stroll round the town. Stone-made carvings resembling balls are on show there. They depict the marimo (called round green alga or moss ball) which is designated as a special natural treasure in Japan. It is believed that a person who touches one of these stones will find happiness. Hence the stones are named the Happy Stones.
