Iwato Kannondo

Iwato Kannondo (Jozankei Hot Springs) is a small temple dedicated to Kannon. It is next to the free foot bath, 'Ashitsubo-no-yu - Towards good health.' There are 33 Kannon statues in the temple; including statues for traffic safety and for the repose of the souls of those who worked to complete the road between Otaru and Jozankei many years ago. Moreover, in a small room there, visitors can see very old photos introducing how Jozankei town used to be decades ago. Interestingly, there is a vending machine to sell towels for foot bath users for a small fee.
