佛願寺 / Butsugan-ji Temple

Butsugan-ji Temple (Sapporo City, Minami-ku) is famous for its very big reclining Buddha (Nirvana Buddha). The garden was designed to depict images of the worlds of Buddhism. (both the world where people on earth are living, and the world of the promised land - a place of complete bliss, delight and peace.) This garden was designed by Yasuo Kitayama, a famous garden artist of Japan. His other works can be seen at famous temples in historical places in Japan such as Kyoto or Kamakura. Butsugan-ji is on route 453, and it is near Sapporo Art Park.
