港文館 / Kobunkan

Kobunkan (Kushiro City) is a reconstructed building replicating the former Kushiro Shimbun Newspaper's headquarters which was built in 1908. Kobunkan was not a big building but, at that time, it was the only building in eastern Hokkaido to be built using red bricks. The second floor is now a museum for Takuboku Ishikawa, who was a very famous poet in Japan was active around the beginning of the twentieth century. Various things about him are exhibited with photos. Takuboku Ishikawa worked for Kushiro Newspaper although it was only for three months. On the first floor there is a cafe and a rental gallery.
