Shoes in winter

In Sapporo, the beginning to the middle of November is the season when we get the first snow. As the temperature during daytime is usually above zero, the snow melts easily, but freezes at night as the temperature falls below 0 degrees. These conditions are seen frequently in November. The surface of roads is covered with thin ice like a skating rink, which is very slippery for pedestrians and cars. Local Hokkaido people have winter shoes like thick boots which typically have rubber grooves on the soles and are like thick boots. Running shoes are not good.

The location is easily accessible from any direction - Douou (central Hokkaido) area, Douhoku (northern Hokkaido) and Doutou (eastern Hokkaido). The Tirol-no-Yu Onsen facility is next to the road station. Tirol is derived from the Tyrol mountains in Europe and some locals say the landscapes are similar. At the shop, they focus on Japanese pickled vegetables and such, and there is a large range of unique pickle packs. As the city formerly flourished via a coal mine, a big mass of coal is exhibited.

Arts & Sports / Hokkaido University of Education’s Arts and Sports Universal Gallery

Hokkaido University of Education’s Arts and Sports Universal Gallery (Sapporo City Chuo-ku) usually holds exhibitions and events like music concerts or watching public sport and the like. Most art exhibitions held at this multi-purpose facility are free of charge. The gallery structure uses Sapporo Nanseki Stone, which is tuff stone, ‘soft’ enough to be cut into blocks. This stone used to be used in many buildings from the 19th century to the middle of the 20th century, but has fallen out of vogue in modern times. This building was built in 1931 by a vegetable shop for use as a storage house.
