Kaiyo Maru Sea Station

Kaiyo Maru (Esashi Town) is a sea station built on the harbor. Kaiyo Maru is actually the name of a battleship built in Holland in 1866. This ship was used in the civil war between Edo period ending and Meiji period starting. The ship was sunk off Esashi Town, was rebuilt, and is now exhibited at the harbor, with a historical museum inside. This sea station houses the main office of Kaiyo Maru and also there is a shop selling Esashi’s local seafood products. The building allows visitors to take a rest while admiring the good harbor view.
