浦臼町鄉土史料館 / Urausu History Museum

Urausu History Museum (Urausu Town) displays information panels to inform about the town’s history. It also houses various unique goods used in the daily lives of the people who came there to settle the area. Visitors can learn about their forest industry, commercial activities, transportation, telecommunications, disaster prevention, education, religion and such. As their unique point, they exhibit goods related to Sakamoto Ryoma, one of the more popular historic people in Japan. The reason for his fame is that Sakamoto Naohiro, a nephew of Ryoma, was in the first generation when the town was cultivated. Moreover, it includes personal belongings of Iwamura Michitoshi, the first governor of Hokkaido.
