旭之丘公園 / Asahigaoka Park

Asahigaoka Park (Ashibetsu City) is on a hill from where people can view the city. There are many cherry trees, with people most fond of visiting in early May. The BBQ facilities are free of charge, and operate from the middle of April to the end of October. The highlight of a visit to the park is the zoo which doesn’t charge an entrance fee. There are mammals such as the Japanese macaque (or snow monkey), Ezo deer, llamas, ponies, and also birds such as swans, ducks and peacocks. It is one of the biggest free-admission zoological facilities in Hokkaido.
