增毛歷史的建築物群 / A number of historical buildings in Mashike Town

A number of historical buildings in Mashike Town are designated as items of Hokkaido Heritage, an entity which aims to preserve Hokkaido’s historical cultural and industrial memories. Mashike Station used to be the last stop on Japan Railway’s Rumoi Line. It opened in 1921 and was demolished in 2016. In the middle of the last century, the area around the station flourished. Now, some historical wooden buildings remain, with some of them used for facilities such as a tourist information center after renovation. In the tourist information center, some old photos taken when the station was used as a set in a Japanese film are on display.
