Mallard

Magamo, or mallard in English, live in Honshu Island and Hokkaido, and are a common wild bird in Japan. In winter, they fly to Honshu in order to avoid the cold weather, but they come back to Hokkaido at the beginning of spring. Usually, couples with their baby chicks can be seen in the beginning of summer. They can even be seen in the central areas of Sapporo, in the ponds of Nakajima Park and the Former Hokkaido Government Office. It’s relatively easy to shoot photos of them as they are used to humans, but feeding them is frowned upon.
