Kiusu Earthwork Burial Circles (Chitose City) form one historical site together. The Circles are on route 337, which is between New Chitose Airport and Sapporo. This site consists of eight big hollows created by excavation in the forest. They were dug at least 3000 years ago for use as public cemeteries. The bowl-shaped hollows have fortunately been preserved in their natural state until the modern age. For the layman, perhaps they are just hollows which hold minimal interest, but they are quite important to historical science. In 1979, this site was registered as an important site by the government. The biggest circle’s diameter is about 75 meters.
