Sekisho Jukai Road

Sekisho Jukai Road is the nickname for a section of route 274 along the Saru River between Hidaka Town and Nissho Pass where the scenery is stunning. This road also runs through a primitive forest where Ezomatsu and Todomatsu, Hokkaido’s native pine trees, are grown. At Nissho Pass, there is an observation deck which allows visitors to take in a beautiful panoramic view of Tokachi Plain. Route 274 is a vital link which connects the eastern and western parts of Hokkaido. When a devastating typhoon hit Hokkaido a couple of years ago, this road was damaged and was closed. However, it re-opened in October 2017.
