Okotanpe湖 / Lake Okotanpe

Lake Okotanpe (Chitose City) is in a deep forest, and is said to be one of the three hidden lakes of Hokkaido. The other two are Lake Onneto and Lake Shinonome. Okotanpe means ‘village at the lower part of a river’ in the Ainu language. Around the lake, the deep forest of Ezomatsu and Todomatsu consists of typical pine trees of Hokkaido. There is a narrow path to the lake but it’s too difficult for the average person to walk. An observation spot is on the nearest road. When the sunshine reflects off the lake, the water looks bright blue. In autumn, it’s surrounded by colored leaves.
