Minapa is a space for pedestrians to have a sit down and rest. It’s located between Sapporo and Odori subway stations, and was opened in March, 2019. The theme of this spot is the culture of Ainu, the aboriginal people of Hokkaido. Minapa means crowds of people laughing in the Ainu language. Some exhibits (sculptures and textile patterns) are proudly displayed, and there are seats with tables where anyone is welcome to sit. Two of the tables are special because images depicting Ainu daily life in the 18th century are projected on their surfaces. People can see how Ainu culture lives in modern times.
