The Former Site of Sapporo Airport (Sapporo City Kita-ku, Kita 24-jo Nishi 8-chome) houses a small historical sculpture, and also an information panel, as well as a pair of gate columns made of stone. In 1926, Hokkai Times, a newspaper company) opened the airport. Between 1937 and 1945, there was a regular flight to Tokyo. Now, the site is completely different. Hokkaido College of Art and Design and other buildings are located there. Most Sapporo people would not know of this historical site, but it can show us a page of Sapporo’s or Hokkaido’s history.
