Oshinkoshin Falls (Shari) is the biggest
easily accessible waterfall in the Shiretoko district. It is 50 meters high and
is very wide. Oshinkoshin means a place where ezomatsu, a common pine tree of
Hokkaido, grows a lot in Ainu language. It’s located on Route 334. From the
parking area, there is a path with steps to the middle of the falls; from where
visitors can enjoy the splendid view. This famous waterfall features in Japan’s
top 100 Waterfalls. It looks like two waterfalls’ combined, with it’s other
name being Soubi-no Taki, which means a pair of beautiful waterfalls.
