KAMOME島 / Kamome Island

Kamome Island (Esashi Town) is small, at 2.6 kilometers in circumference. As it's naturally connected to the mainland by a sandbank, people can get to the island on foot. Geographically, the area is suitable for a port, and hence used to operate as a port. It took an important role in the catching of herring, and trading with Honshu Island. Now, there are some sightseeing spots on the island. There is a footpath, which takes visitors on a two-hour walk circumnavigating the island. Visitors can see a strange shaped rock which is bin-shaped. Kamome means seagull in English.
