Ubagami Daijingu

Ubagami Daijingu (Esashi Town) is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Hokkaido. It is believed to have been founded in the middle of the 15th century. Before Kaitakushi, the local government set up to develop Hokkaido, was established in Sapporo in the 19th century, the southern part of Hokkaido was the center of commerce and industry. Esashi especially flourished as a shipping port for the domestic trading. Every August, the shrine holds their festival, which has a long history, and is designated as Hokkaido Heritage. 13 Floats with gorgeous ornaments and a portable shrine are paraded through the town.
