Hamanasu-no-oka Park (Ishikari City) consists of a vast sandy area. Hamanasu-no-oka stands for “hill of rugosa rose” in English. Not only rugosa roses, but also other 180 seaside plants grow wild there. There is a long boardwalk through the park, and visitors can enjoy walking in the sea breeze. The best season for viewing the rugosa rose is from the end of June to the beginning of July, however various flowers bloom from spring to autumn. It is forbidden to step off onto the sandy land from the boardwalk in order to protect the seaside plants which are designated as protective area by Ishikari City. It is a nice to walk to the very end of the park, then return along the beach.
