Nakayama Pass

Nakayama Pass (Kimobetsu Town) is on Route 230, which connects Sapporo and Rusutsu and leads to the Lake Toya area. On the top of the pass, there is a road station - Bouyou Nakayama. This is one of the most well-known road stations in Hokkaido as a place to take a rest on a long drive. Deep fried potato with flavored batter is a famous food here. Three whole potatoes are skewered, battered, then deep-fried. People line up to buy it on weekends from spring to autumn. In the building, there is a observation area and visitors can see Mt. Yotei. It also houses an art museum. Admission is free.
