Akkeshi Waterfowl Observation Center (Akkeshi Town) displays various materials to learn not only about waterfowl, but also other animals and plants which can be seen in Lake Akkeshi and Bekanbeushi Wetland. This center is also in charge of preserving its environment. In 1993, Akkeshi Lake and Bekanbeushi Wetland became registered marshes under the Ramsar Convention. Visitors can watch a live feed sent from cameras in the marsh. The red-crowned crane, which is known as Japanese crane, inhabits this marsh. Canoeing is popular but access spots to get on and off the water are restricted. One of three access stations is here.

Akkeshi Waterfowl Observation Center
