Gyokusenkan Atochi Park

Gyokusenkan Atochi Park (Iwamizawa City) is a traditional Japanese garden. This park used to be the garden of a high-class ryokan (ryokan means Japanese style hotel.) In 1903, a hotel with a restaurant opened here and it was named Gyokusenkan. Gyokusen literally means "springs of treasure" and kan means building. Atochi means "former". In 1979, the hotel closed and the premises was abandoned. In 2001, it was reborn as a city park. This park is now famous for cherry blossoms in spring and colored leaves in autumn. There are paths for walking, and enjoying the landscape from various vantage points.
