Lake Kanayama (Minami-Furano Town) is the
largest artificial lake created by a dam in Hokkaido. The lake is surrounded by
a pine tree forest. Todo-matsu and Ezo-matsu grow only in Hokkaido, and some
regions in Russia. Matsu means pine tree in English. There are many kinds of
fish in the lake. Ito and Oshorokoma, members of the salmon family that live in
fresh water, are facing extinction. The lakeside is a good spot for leisure
pursuits. A park and camping site are there. In summer, from the middle of July
to the middle of August, their lavender garden in full bloom is a highlight.
