Aputa

Aputa (Toyako Town) is a road station on route 37. The actual location is on top of the hill where visitors can take in the panoramic view of Uchiura Gulf. From a bird’s eye view, the gulf is shaped like the letter C. A beautiful sunset can be seen from the hill. This place used to be in Abuta Town, which changed to Toyako Town after merging with Toyako Village. Abuta is actually derived from Aputa, a word in Ainu language, which means a river for making fishing hock. At the restaurant, fresh seafood from the fishery port near the station is served.
