Shirakawa Shimin-no Mori (Sapporo City Minami-ku) stands for 'forest for Sapporo citizens located in Shirakawa area'. It is a sizable 133.7 hectares. There is a 16.5 kilometer walking path which has a vertical ascent of 530 meters in total. Walker can see good views of other mountains and housing areas from the high vantage points. This path is open through a year, but visitors should be careful for wild brown bears. To avoid bears, a bell or radio to make sounds to alert the bears of your approach is recommended during your walk. In summer, visitors should prepare for hornets, too.
