Konpira Shrine

Konpira Shrine (Shosanbetsu Village) is a unique shrine despite not being known by most people in Hokkaido. The gate of this shrine is called "torii" in Japanese. This shrine is unique, as the main torii is standing in the sea. This shrine worships the protective deity of sea transportation that is called Konpira Sama. Many years ago, a lucky amulet drifted ashore and fishermen enshrined it there. After that, they say the number of marine accidents have decreased. Now, this place is also popular for watching the magical sunset. Looking through the torii at the setting sun is truly a special feeling.
