Kikoin Temple

Kikoin (Iwanai Town) is the town’s oldest Buddhist temple. There is a large statue of Buddha, which was completed in 1921. It's 6.8 meters tall and is made of wood, with gold leaf. Visitors are frequently taken aback at its size when they first see it. Like the most famous Buddha statue in Nara Prefecture, which is the biggest in Japan, the statue of Buddha in Iwanai is in the sitting position. This statue of Buddha is the biggest north of Tokyo, and was designated as the town's first important landmark in 1969.
