Puyuni Cape (Shari Town) is located at the
east of Utoro Port and faces the Sea of Okhotsk. In 1964, this cape was
designated as a national park, and in 2005, it was accorded World Heritage
status. The World Heritage "Shiretoko Area" includes famous features
of Shiretoko Peninsula. Puyuni Cape is well known for the ice floe blocks that
reach it, and the beautiful sun setting over the sea. The beautiful view from
this cape is registered as one of the eight Best Sceneries of Shiretoko. Puyuni
stands for "the place which has halls on the ground" in the Ainu
language.
