Minami 4-jo Sen

Minami 4-jo Sen (Sapporo City, Chuo-ku) is a street running between Minami 4-jo and Minami 5-jo. Between Nishi 20-chome and 28-chome of this street, there are more than 70 Yaezakura cherry trees on both sides, which typically bloom in the second week of May every year, after Someiyoshino cherry trees bloom. While Someiyoshino are a famous cherry species, Yaezakura are not so well known but beautiful all the same. Yaezakura’s flowers are pinker than Someiyoshino’s. Minami means south and Nishi means west, and the street blocks in Sapporo use them. Visitors should be careful for pedestrians and cars.
