Torimeshi

Torimeshi is a local dish of Bibai City. Tori means chicken, while Meshi stands for cooked-rice. To make Torimeshi, first finely chop chicken fillet or offal, stir-fry and season with soy sauce, sugar and Japanese sake. Next, boil these ingredients with rice. You are left with light brown colored Torimeshi. In Bibai, there are approximately 10 restaurants serving Torimeshi, each with its own recipe. Historically, the first settlers of Bibai raised chicken while producing rice. They usually presented their chicken to esteemed guests. Then it spread. At supermarket, bento boxes of Torimeshi are sold.
