Nishioka Park

Nishioka Park (Sapporo City, Toyohira-ku) has an artificial lake created by the damming of the Tsukisamu River. This used to be used as a water supply for Sapporo city. There is a symbolic building which worked as the intake facility, which is now a registered cultural property. It looks like a hexagonal house with a red roof. In the park, there is a large wet land, with skunk cabbage flowers blooming in spring. In summer, the highlight is fireflies at night; with the season running from mid to end July. There are also long paths where people can see small creatures such as dragonflies and squirrels.
