Amanogawa River

Amanogawa River (Kaminokuni Town) is a clean river running through the town. Amanogawa means Milky Way in English. In 1618, Angelis, a Italian Christian missionary, was deposited in the town by a storm. He was the first European person to set foot in Hokkaido. Later, he made a hand-drafted map of Hokkaido. He wrote Tsuga, which is a word that stands for Milky Way, for the point where he first arrived. This is the origin of the name of this river. At the bridge, there are 12 bronze reliefs of constellations, which are beautiful under the lights at night.
