Hill of the Buddha

Hill of the Buddha (Sapporo City Minami-ku) is a symbol of Makomanai Takino Cemetery. This cemetery is unique enough on its own, being like a park where people gather, with a lot of tourists visiting there these days. The Buddha statue looks buried, but of course it isn't; rather it's set into a hill. In spring the hill is green, in summer it’s purple on account of the lavender, and in winter it’s white with snow. It was designed by Tadao Ando, a well known architect. Visitors can access the Buddha statue by walking 135 meters through tunnels and looking up the statue. There is a cafe too.
