The Site of Katsuyama Castle (Kaminokuni Town) is designated as a historic landmark of Japan, and an important cultural property which shows us historical events of medieval times in Hokkaido. Takeda Nobuhiro, a lord and a warrior, governed here, and the castle seemed to be commissioned by him in 1473. At the time, he changed his family name from Takeda to Kakizaki. Katsuyama Castle was used until the middle of the 16th century by Kakizaki Mitsuhiro, a son of Nobuhiro. Nobuhiro moved to another base and the place grew quiet, with the castle only being used sporadically.
