Assabu

ASSABU(位於厚沢部町)是在國道227號沿線上的道路休息站。

Assabu (Assabu Town) is a road station on route 227, which connects Esashi Town and Hakodate City. Assabu Town is a unique place for dendrology in Japan, being the northernmost point for wild Hiba (a kind of cypress) to grow, while also the southernmost point for wild Todomatsu (a kind of pine tree) to grow. The building of this road station uses wood milled from the Hiba tree. Moreover, the May Queen, a potato species, was created in this town, and has become popular throughout Japan. At the shop, products using May Queen and other fresh vegetables are sold. Visitors can eat snacks made from May Queen, too.
